Track Update

Monday, March 16th, 2009

It’s been a great 5 days so far.  All the jump changes have taken place and all the jumps have also had a layer of stone put down.  The changes are unbelievable, everyone’s gonna love the 2nd, 3rd and 4th straight changes.

Before the track re-opens, there’s still plenty of help required to surface the track and tidy up from all the machine work.  If you’ve got the time, here’s the schedule for further track work.  Feel obliged to pop down and lend a hand even if it’s just for a few hours:

Sunday the 15th
8am until 5pm.

Tuesday the 17th
6pm until 9pm

Thursday the 19th
6pm until 9pm.

Quicker we get this done, the quicker the track will re-open….trust me, you’re gonna love it!

Track Update

Friday, March 6th, 2009

Get your BMX fix tomorrow, cos Manchester’s gonna be locked down for a few weeks whilst we upgrade the track.

Saturday is race day, so be on site for 3.30pm at the latest if you want to be racing by 4pm.  It’s the last event of Manchester BMX Club’s first ever winter series.  No stress, no pressure, just a bit of fun on a Saturday afternoon for £2.00…..beats the Trafford Centre hands down, any day.

On to the good news…if you like shovels, rakes, wheel barrows and type 1 stone!  Manchester’s not known for a tropical climate, which was an ever so slight over site in the design process, so it’s time to put that right and make the track an all weather paradise.

The club have enlisted the silky and trusted skills of track builders Clark and Kent Bridgett who will be spending 3 days upgrading some of the jumps while the club volunteers weather proof the jumps.

Once Superman 1 and 2 have finished weaving their magic, Horticon move back in to tarmac berms 1 and 3 and stone the flat surfaces of the track.  All this is going to take at least until the 21st of March, but for a safe bet, I’d say it’s going to be Friday the 27th before we are operational.  Could be earlier, if it is I’ll let you know.

Schedule:

All work will be in the day time from 8am plus Thursday evening

Wednesday 11th             Clark and Kent + volunteers (everyone welcome)

Thursday 12th                 Clark and Kent + volunteers (everyone welcome) + evening

Friday 13th                    Clark and Kent + volunteers (everyone welcome)

Saturday 14th                 Volunteers only….everyone welcome

Sunday the 15th              Volunteers only….everyone welcome

Monday 16th                   Horticon move back in to work on the tarmac areas

End date to be determined based on weather, etc.

The club would love to see you down lending a hand if available and we’d love your money even more.  If you have been putting off joining the club, I can assure you the track builders don’t come cheap.  We will be spending money we don’t have, so please don’t make us beg.  Membership forms available at: www.manchesterbmx.co.uk

See you all soon…..Manchester BMX Club

Track Changes

Wednesday, March 4th, 2009

Roger and Andy are to meet with the council Thursday 5th March to discuss track changes and drainage improvements.

Planned work will include jump changes, stone sub base, re-surfacing, drainage improvements and re-tarmacing berms.

Hopefully work to start Wednesday 11th.

All being well we will hold a work party Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th. Obviously we will be seeking as many volunteers as possible. “Many hands make light work”

More details to be posted soon. Wheelbarrows ready….watch this space….
