So the new season proper starts here. As seems to be the tradition now it starts at the indoor. Manchester really is the home of BMX. First race is every commentator and race reporter’s worst nightmare with new teams, new bikes and new kit. No idea who was who. With Round 1 being split over 2 days Saturday saw big rigs and little kids – or cruisers and under 9s if you want to be posh.

First out of the gate was Flying Flynn Drelincourt in the 6 and under boys. This boy’s got speed and looked very impressive in the motos with 3 wins but couldn’t quite take the final with a 2nd place. Flynn was backed up by Alexander Skjelten with some results and a 5th place overall.

Harry Tanner really got stuck in to the racing in the 7 year old boys. Some great racing showing the training has paid off with some good results and a 6th in the A final. Keep training Harry.

The ever improving Curtis Sveikutis was the sole rep in the 8’s boys. Got some great results in the motos in a huge category with some strong riders but couldn’t quite make it through the quarters. Moving up the Field Curtis so keep going.

Onto the big rigs then and first up Charlie Yates making his cruiser debut – literally with the first moto being his first full lap on the bike. Looked good and grew in speed through the day making the A final in 15-16 and taking 7th overall.

Female 30+ cruiser saw the one and only Louise Abbot picking up where she left off last year with a clean sweep through the motos and the final. Awesome.

Adam Hill and James Tresman riding in the 30-39 cruisers and wrapping up solid 9th and 11th places just missing out on the Final

Jamie Duffy taking on the 40-44 class with a 4th place in the final on what is very much Jamie’s home turf. Roger Wilbraham making 11th in the 45+ category wrapped up a good days racing.

Onto the evenings events and a thoroughly international field took to the track for the Supercross. Valerie Zebrokova taking a 1st in the Championship Women, Kane Herbert taking 24th in the tough Elite Men and Jacob Roberts in 31st. Great return to top level racing. With a British 1,2,3 for Liam Phillips, Kyle Evans and Tre Whyte was a great night. We know you are not part of MBMX but we love you guys and you are all kind of locals now. Great work guys and looking great.

Day one done and off to bed. Early start in the morning.
